K-Wings Keep Productive During Busy Schedule

ROCHESTER, MI--- The Kalamazoo Wings have been busy as of late, playing eight games in 12 days with four of those eight games going into overtime. Kalamazoo has gone 5-2-1-0 in their last eight games. The K-Wings were the only professional team to be undefeated in overtime or a shootout, until last night. They suffered their first overtime loss Sunday, losing 5-4 in the extra session to Fort Wayne. This season, the K-Wings are 11-1 in extra hockey, posting five overtime wins and six shootout wins.

The most productive K-Wings during the last 12 days have been captain Glenn Detulleo (4g, 5a) and rookie Rick Cleaver (5g, 4a), who each had nine points in the last eight games. Also adding to the scoring column have been forwards Lucas Drake (5g, 3a) and Anthony Battaglia (4g, 3a), who have notched in a combined 15 points. Goaltender Joel Martin has been stellar between the pipes for Kalamazoo during the last eight games, starting five of those games, earning a 5-0-0-0 record. In those five games, Martin had a 2.52 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.

Fans in the IHL have gotten their fair share of hockey this season, catching a total of 32 games that have gone into overtime or a shootout. Over the last 40 IHL games, there have been a total of 19 games that have gone into extra hockey. Compared to this point last season, there have been three more games that have gone to a shootout, with 16 in 2007-08 and 19 this season. Overtime games remains the exact same as the 2007-08 season, both seasons having 13 as of February 15th.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (1-1-0-0) - Rookie Bill Bagron has scored at least one point in seven of the last eight games (4 goals, 5 assists) for nine points and a +6 rating. Rookie Russ Smith scored his first goal with the PrairieThunder, and it turned out to be the game-winner against Muskegon, in only his fifth game with the team. The seven goals the PrairieThunder scored against Muskegon on Friday was a season high. Bloomington has posted an 11-3-3 record since the top line of Jan Jas, Jon Booras and Henry Kuster has been together. Jon Booras had a team-high five points with a plus-5 rating against Muskegon Friday night.

Flint Generals - (0-2-0-0) - Flint has given up 16 goals in their last two games, first Friday in an 8-1 loss in Port Huron, then again Saturday in an 8-7 loss to Muskegon. Flint had two goals scored against them in a short span of 18 seconds in their 8-7 loss to Muskegon. All 15 goals scored Saturday were scored even strength. There were a total of two hat tricks scored Saturday, one by Flint's own Steve Rymsha and the other by Muskegon's Luke Stauffacher. Rymsha scored a goal in each period to earn the hat trick. Rymsha continues to lead the league in goals scored with 32. Nine of Flint's 16 skaters figured in their seven goal output Saturday. Flint continues to lead the league in penalty minutes, registering 1,175 as a team. Leading in PIM's for the Generals are forwards John DiPace (157 minutes) and Justin Styffe (156 minutes).

Fort Wayne Komets - (1-0-0-2) - The Komets maintained pace at the top of the IHL earning four points out of a possible six to continue to trail first-place Port Huron by three points at the end of week 18 of 2008-09. The week started with a 4-3 shootout loss at Muskegon Wednesday. Friday the Komets dropped a 4-3 shootout loss to the visiting Kalamazoo Wings and remain unbeaten at home in four straight games. Sunday the Komets finished the week with a 5-4 overtime victory at Kalamazoo to remain unbeaten in regulation six games straight while extending their road unbeaten streak to seven games. Thirteen Komet games have needed extra time to decide a winner this year. The Komets are 2-2 in overtime games this season while registering a 1-8 record in shootouts. There have been four penalty shots in Komet games this season, none resulting in goals. Three penalty shots have been awarded against the Komets with all three being stopped by Komet goalie Nick Boucher. The first penalty shot awarded to the Komets this season came in Sunday's 5-4 overtime victory at Kalamazoo in which David Hukalo missed. Streaking Komets: Goaltender Sebastien Laplante has a five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1-1). Center Mathieu Curadeau is riding a six-game point scoring streak (3g, 6a, 9pts). Winger David Hukalo has a three-game assist streak (3a).

Kalamazoo Wings - (3-0-1-0) - John Glavota is one game shy of 400 in his career. Rod Aldoff is one goal shy of 100 in his career. Blair Manning is two points shy of 800 in his career. Kalamazoo is on a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1-0) and five-game home unbeaten streak (4-0-1-0). Kalamazoo lost their first extra session game yesterday with a 5-4 loss to Fort Wayne. The K-Wings are now 11-1 in OT/SO. Kalamazoo tied the game on Sunday versus Fort Wayne with 0.1 seconds remaining in regulation. In marks the third time this season that the K-Wings have scored a goal in the final minute against Fort Wayne to force overtime. Rick Cleaver leads all rookies in goals scored with 18 goals. Anthony Battaglia is on a four-game point streak. The K-Wings crowd of 5,413 last Saturday versus Port Huron marked the first-time since March 17, 2007 that Kalamazoo had a sell out at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo's opponent on March 17, 2007 was Port Huron. Lucas Drake had a masterful week producing six points (4g, 2a) in four games.

Muskegon Lumberjacks - (3-1-0-0) - The Lumberjacks completed a successful week with a 3-1-0-0 record, capping the week with a pair of road wins in as many nights. Overall, the Lumberjacks are 4-1-0-0 in their last five starts. Muskegon is currently enjoying their longest undefeated streak on the road so far this season at five games (4-0-1-0). The Lumberjacks 16 home wins this season are two shy of their total last season at home of 18. Center Todd Robinson has his second five-point game of the season in his team's 8-7 win at Flint. Robinson scored one goal and dished out four assists. Both of his five-point games this season have come against Flint. In Sunday's dramatic 2-1 come-from-behind victory in overtime in Port Huron, defenseman Matt Gens fired the ultimate game-winning goal at 4:35 of overtime for the victory. Muskegon has scored eight three-goal hat tricks this season and have yet to lose one of those games.

Port Huron Icehawks - (1-0-2-0) - The Icehawks picked up four of six possible points in the standings last weekend and finished in the same position they were in at the start of the weekend, with a one point lead for first place. Two Icehawks forwards are poised to reach significant career milestones this week. The next time they hit the ice, Tab Lardner will play in his 500th professional game and Jeff Zehr will skate in his 400th pro contest. Lardner is also three points shy of 400 career points. Icehawks right wing Robert Snowball was called up on Saturday to the Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey League. The enforcer, who is usually more accustomed to penalty minutes than points, made his debut Saturday night versus the Manchester Monarchs and scored his first AHL goal during his first shift. He finished the game with one goal and a +1 rating. Friday's 8-1 victory over Flint marked the Icehawks largest margin of victory this season and the most goals they have scored in a single game. On Sunday, the Icehawks fired 23 shots in the third period versus Muskegon, marking the most shots they have made in a single period this season. Sunday's overtime loss snapped a four game home winning streak for the Icehawks, but they remain unbeaten in regulation in their last five home contests.
