BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Henry Kuster scored two goals as the Bloomington PrairieThunder extended its home winning streak to seven and its unbeaten mark at U.S. Cellular Coliseum to 10 with a 4-2 International Hockey League victory over Flint before 2,410 people.
Flint got on the scoreboard first as Travis Hanson scored an unassisted goal 2:55 into the first period. Rookie Bill Bagron then drew the PrairieThunder even at the 5:33 mark off assists by Travis Granbois and Shaun Fisher.
Flint went back in front, 2-1, on John DiPace's goal with the assists to Jordan Boman and Steve Rymsha just 1:51 into the second period. But again the PrairieThunder tied the game at 2-all when Kuster scored his first goal with 16:27 remaining in the second period off assists by rookie Russ Smith and Marty Standish.
Kuster then scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 13:32 left in the game on assists from Jan Jas and Jon Booras, who added the final goal on a power play effort with 5:46 remaining. The assists were by Matt Frick and Smith.
Rookie Ryan Ludzik won his 10th game in net and extended his unbeaten streak to eight and his winning string to four by stopping 40 of 42 shots. Flint owned a 42-26 advantage in shots on goal. The PrairieThunder was successful on 1 of 3 power plays, while Flint missed all six of its opporunities.
The PrairieThunder returns to action Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. game at league-leading Port Huron before returning home for back-to-back game against the IceHawks on Thursday and Saturday, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
The Thursday game was originally scheduled for Friday, but changed to accommodate a concert date at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Tickets for Friday's game will be honored Thursday
