K-Tribe Notes for June 15th

June 15, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release

The K-Tribe finishes up the first half on the road, beginning a six game road trip with a three game series starting tonight in Lynchburg.

Pops is Tops - Marty Popham was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week on Monday following two outstanding starts last week. In outings against Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, Popham threw 13 scoreless innings and gave up just ten hits. Popham struck out 12 and only walked one batter. On Sunday against Myrtle Beach, he retired the final ten batters he faced and struck out the last four in a row. Amazingly, Popham has not allowed a run in three of his five starts, and also has had a one-run performance. He has struck out at least five and walked no more than two in all of his starts. Popham is the second K-Tribe pitcher to earn the honor this season, joining Joe Gardner who was named Pitcher of the Week on May 24.

Moving Day- K-Tribe centerfielder Jordan Henry was sent to Double A Akron on Sunday. He was leading the Carolina League with a .438 on-base percentage, was 4th in the league with a .333 batting average and was T-4th in the league with 30 walks. Henry becomes the seventh Indian to be sent up to Akron this season. Outfielder Adam Davis returns to the K-Tribe from Akron.

Playoff Picture-In the Northern Division, Frederick clinched the first half crown on Saturday. In the Southern Division, Salem fell on Sunday to drop Winston-Salem's magic number to four to clinch the first half title. The K-Tribe is statistically eliminated from contention for a first half title.
