THE HILLCATS: Potomac edged Lynchburg 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at City Stadium to earn a split in the four-game series...Tonight is the first game of a three-game series with Kinston and the fifth contest in a seven-game homestand for the Cats...

VS. KINSTON: Lynchburg is 5-2 against Kinston this season with two series victories...The Hillcats went 10-10 versus the Indians in 2009 and were 6-4 at Grainger Stadium...After starting 8-4 against the K-Tribe, the Cats lost six of the final eight games between the two...Lynchburg is 153-149 all-time against the Indians and 85-65 in the Hill City...

HOLDING THEM IN CHECK: Sunday Potomac plated three runs in their 3-2 win over Lynchburg...Their run in the top of the first inning ended a stretch of 21 straight scoreless innings by the Hillcats pitching staff...The Cats had posted two shutouts in 61 games before blanking the P-Nats in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday night...Even with the three runs scored by the Nationals in the finale, Lynchburg only allowed six runs total in the four-game series (1.5 runs per game)...

ROAD TO RECOVERY: RHP Edinson Volquez is made his 2010 debut Saturday night with the Hillcats and tossed three scoreless innings in the rehab appearance...After allowing the first two batters of the game to get base hits, he set down the next nine in order before his night came to a close...In 2008 he was the Reds' lone representative in the National League All-Star game...He was 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA with 206 strikeouts in 196 innings...The righty last threw June 1, 2009 for the Reds against St. Louis...He missed the rest of last season and had reconstructive elbow surgery August 3...Volquez was 4-2, with a 4.35 ERA in nine starts with Cincinnati last year...On April 20, Volquez was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program...Volquez is scheduled to start again for Lynchburg next Thursday night at City Stadium...

HE'S AN ALL-STAR: RHP Brad Boxberger makes his first start tonight since being named to the 2010 Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star team as the Hillcats lone representative...The supplemental first round selection from last year's draft is 4-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts this season...Last Wednesday night he tossed a career-high seven innings and allowed just one run in earning his fourth victory of the season...It was his first win in seven starts (May 3rd) and it snapped a personal four-game losing streak...The right-hander had only gotten through five innings one time in his previous six starts prior that start...Boxberger is seventh in the Carolina League in earned run average and is third amongst starters in strike outs per nine innings (9.91)...

BIG TOP PUCKETT: UTIL Cody Puckett went 2-for-3 with a homer, an RBI and two runs scored on Sunday...It was his second game this season batting lead-off...In those two games he is a combined 4-for-8 with a double, two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored...Last season he batted lead-off just three times, all while playing for Dayton...In his three years as a professional Puckett is batting .321 (42-for-123) with nine doubles, eight homers, 23 RBI and 29 runs in 33 games as a lead-off hitter...

WE HARDLY KNEW YA: LHP Bill Bray was promoted to Triple-A Lousiville Sunday after spending ten days with the Hillcats...He entered the game Friday night with a man on base and escaped the inning without allowing a run...It was the first time this season Bray has pitched in back-to-back games and it was the first time he has inherited a runner...In four games with the Hillcats the former big leaguer did not allowed a run in four and 2/3 innings...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Joe Gardner was selected by the Indians in the third round of the 2009 draft...His junior and only season with the Gauchos, he went 7-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 13 starts after transferring from Ohlone College...This season he made his professional debut with full season Low-A Lake County nd had a 1-0 mark with a 3.24 ERA in six starts for the Captains before earning the call-up to Advanced-A...With Kinston he has gone 4-1 with a 2.01 ERA in seven starts...Tonight will be his first start against Lynchburg...
