Jupiter Falls Twice to Bradenton

August 13, 2015 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads (18-29, 53-64) were defeated by the Bradenton Marauders in both games of tonight's doubleheader matchup. After weather postponed August 11's contest, the teams played two, seven inning games. In game one, Bradenton won 2 - 0, and kept the momentum through game two to win, 5 - 3.

The Marauders got to work quickly collecting two singles within the first three batters of the game. After a double steal, Jordan Steranka grounded out to second baseman Avery Romero, but was able to score Austin Meadows to take the lead. Bradenton added their final run in the top of the fourth on Edwin Espinal's fifth blast of the year. His solo shot put the Marauders up 2 - 0 to take game one of the doubleheader.

In the first loss, starting pitcher, Luis Castillo, threw five innings, allowing two runs on three hits. After Espinal's home run in the fourth, both Castillo and reliever, Chris Mazza, held Bradenton hitless for the rest of the matchup.

In game two, the Hammerheads and Marauders both tallied ten hits, but Bradenton was issued two more walks than Jupiter. Starting pitcher, Sam Alvis found himself in a jam after walking the bases loaded in the first inning. Prior to those three walks, he gave up three singles in a row. On the third hit, Bradenton got on the board, 1 - 0. After recording two outs, Ben Meyer relieved Alvis to get Jupiter out of the jam.

In the bottom of the first and second, Jupiter tied the game at two scoring one run in each inning. To cut Bradenton's lead in half, Romero's sacrifice fly scored Justin Bohn in the first, and Cameron Flynn's infield single scored Felix Munoz in the second. The very next inning, the Marauders began a two out rally on Jin-De Jhang's single to center field. The next two batters hit doubles to jump ahead 4 - 2. They added another run in the fifth on three hits.

The Hammerheads' rally in the bottom of the seventh fell short, scoring one run on one hit and an error.

The Hammerheads will continue their home stand on Thursday, August 13, with a three game series against the St. Lucie Mets. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
