Clearwater Threshers News Release

LAKELAND, Fla. - Rhys Hoskins knocked home three runs and finished a home run short of the cycle to lead the Clearwater Threshers in a 10-5 win in the series finale against the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

Clearwater (29-18) completed the sweep at Lakeland in the final meeting between the two squads, finishing with a 13-5 record against the Flying Tigers.

Hoskins led the charge with a huge night at the dish, going 4-for-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored, including two singles, a double, and a triple.

The teams battled back-and-forth early on. With Lakeland up 1-0, Clearwater tied it in the second on a Chace Numata RBI fielder's choice, and went ahead in the third on a Hoskins RBI single.

Lakeland (9-33) responded in the fourth. With two outs and a man on against Matt Imhof, Jared Reaves knocked an RBI double and Andrew Longley belted a two-run shot to give the Flying Tigers the advantage, 4-2.

Clearwater bounded right back in the fifth.

Carlos Tocci kicked it off with a bunt single, and Andrew Pullin was hit by a pitch. Hoskins then shot a double to left-center to bring across Tocci and set up men at second and third with nobody out.

Dylan Cozens grounded out to short, pushing home Pullin with the tying run. With two outs, Numata worked a walk, and Derek Campbell gave Clearwater the lead with a single to center.

A fourth run scored when a pickoff throw to first was dropped by Curt Powell, and Numata raced down the line to make it 6-4 Threshers.

Lakeland surged in the bottom half, but Alexis Rivero came up clutch in relief.

After the Flying Tigers collected consecutive singles and a walk with one down, Francisco Martinez singled to cut the deficit to one.

Rivero (1-2) was thus called upon with the bases full and one away, guarding a one-run advantage. The 20-year old righty induced a huge double play ball off the bat of Ben Verlander, ending the inning and keeping the Threshers ahead by a run.

Clearwater continued to tack on the rest of the way, plating one in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

The Threshers will return to Bright House Field to open a four-game homestand, beginning on Thirsty Thursday and Ladies Night, presented by Tijuana Flats. Mark Leiter, Jr. (4-1) takes the hill against the Tampa Yankees' Dietrich Enns (0-1) with first pitch at 7 p.m., and the call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 6:45 p.m.
