TAMPA, FL. - The Tampa Yankees will be participating in HOPE Week (Helping Others Preserve & Excel) during the week of August 18-23, 2015. HOPE Week is a New York Yankees initiative designed to reach out to remarkable people who are worthy of recognition for their inspiring actions and support of their communities.
The Tampa Yankees will participate in events every day from August 18-23 to create awareness for organizations, individuals and visit those in need to offer words of encouragement and support.
The schedule includes:
Tuesday, August 18 - Players will visit the local Boys & Girls Club and patients at Tampa General Hospital.
Wednesday, August 19 - Players will visit patients and their families at three local area hospitals, St. Joseph's Hospital, All Children's Hospital and Shriner's Hospital.
TY Alum John Ryan Murphy is a co-founder of the IamMore Foundation. We will recognize the Foundation at our game that evening and Co-Founder Leslie Leibbrandt will throw out the first pitch.
Thursday, August 20 - Players will visit Focus Academy and The Children's Home. Focus Academy is a charter high school for students with learning challenges. The Children's Home is a child and family-centered non-profit organization that is positioned to care for struggling families and children seeking the comfort of a loving family.
Where Love Grows will be hosting a dinner in the Yankees pavilion at Steinbrenner Field for the children of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. Tampa Yankees players and staff will be in attendance to help serve food and mingle with the children. Where Love Grows founder Vicki Anzalone will throw out the first pitch.
Friday, August 21 - Steinbrenner Field will open its doors to the USO for Military and their families to take some swings on the main field, play catch and run the bases.
Young Life is an organization that offers support to struggling teenagers by offering a positive and supportive environment where they can learn that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. Young Life will attend the evening game and participate in our Field of Dreams program. Russ Johnson, Area Director of Young Life, will throw out the first pitch.
During the game, fans can buy a raffle ticket for a chance to dump a bucket of ice water on a TY Player in support of ALS after the game.
Saturday, August 22 - Players will join in Hillsborough County's Homerun for Health by handing out backpacks to those in need.
3-year old Salvatore from the team's May 1st Fight Like A Kid Night will return to Steinbrenner Field to throw out the first pitch. Salvatore has stage 4 cancer and the team raised over $15,000 to aid his medical expenses.
Sunday, August 23 - HOPE Week will wrap up with a bowling tournament to benefit the Special Olympics of Hillsborough County. Fans can enter a team of four into the tournament with a $100 donation to the Special Olympics and will get a TY Player and Special Olympics Athlete added to their team.
