OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION PROPELS SEA DOGS OVER FIGHTIN PHILS - The Portland Sea Dogs took the penultimate game of the series last night, 9-3 over the Reading Fightin Phils. The Sea Dogs brought across the first run in the top of the third against Fightin Phils starter Adam Leverett. Elih Marrero led off the inning with a walk, and Ceddanne Rafaela quickly brought him in with an RBI double to center, giving the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead. Castellanos added on to the lead with a run-scoring base hit to center, bringing in Rafaela, expanding their lead to 2-0. Sal Gozzo brought home the first run for the Fightins in the third inning, then scored on a double play and the game was tied, 2-2. The Fightin Phils jumped out to their first lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Gozzo laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring Guzman, putting Reading in the lead 3-2. In the seventh inning, Castellanos laced a two-run single to right, driving in Sogard and Marrero, giving the Sea Dogs a 4-3 lead. Four more runs touched home plate in the top of the eighth inning for the Sea Dogs. Sogard knocked in the first run with an RBI base hit and Wil Dalton followed with a run-scoring single of his own. Rafaela added to the score with the third RBI hit of the inning, and Dalton capped it off by scoring on a wild pitch, increasing Portland's lead to 8-3. Hudson Potts drove home the final run of the game in the ninth inning with a double and the Sea Dogs beat the Fightin Phils, 9-3.

POWER OUTAGE - The Sea Dogs have the fewest amount of home runs this season in Double-A. Portland has blasted 44 long balls so far this year while the Tennessee Smokies and Tulsa Drillers lead the level with 89 home runs.

A GAME WITHOUT STRIKEOUTS? - Portland's pitching staff did not record a strikeout until the ninth inning. Brett Kennedy tossed 6.0 innings last night allowing three runs on five hits while walking three. Jake Thompson tossed the sixth and seventh innings, and allowed two hits but again did not record a strikeout. The Fightin Phils did not strike out until the ninth inning when Chase Shugart closed out the game. Shugart finished the ball game with two strikeouts.

WHERE TO NEXT - Following the league-wide off-day tomorrow, Monday, June 20th, the Portland Sea Dogs will continue the two-week road trip to Richmond, Virginia to face the Richmond Flying Squirrels. It will be the first time since July 30th - August 1st that the Sea Dogs have traveled to The Diamond. In the last three-game series in Richmond, Portland swept the Flying Squirrels. Currently, the Flying Squirrels are in first place in the Southwest Division of the Eastern League with a 36-26 record. Portland is in fifth place in the Northeast Division.

CASTELLANOS CONTINUES TO HIT - Pedro Castellanos extended his hitting streak to 15 games last night and his on-base streak to 20 games after going 4-for-5 last night with a run and three RBI. His hitting streak is the longest, active streak in Double-A. Castellanos has also recorded 15 multi-hit games for the Sea Dogs this year and 11 multi-RBI games this season.

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - June 19, 1998: Fletcher Bates paced a 17-hit attack with four hits and three runs scored as Portland downed Norwich 16-6.

PITCHING MATCHUP - LHP Chris Murphy will take the mound for the Sea Dogs in the series finale on Sunday evening. He last pitched in the first game of the series, June 14th, and tossed a season-high 6.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three. He gave up a season-high two home runs. Murphy has pitched at least 6.0 innings in his last three outings.
