New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Toronto Blue Jays announced Sunday that they have selected the contract of former New Hampshire Fisher Cats right-handed pitcher Max Castillo. Castillo will be active for the series finale Sunday against the New York Yankees at Rogers Centre.
Castillo recorded 14 wins in 27 games, 26 starts, with the Fisher Cats over the past two seasons. He led all Double-A pitchers with 11 victories last year and fanned 35 batters in 29 innings with New Hampshire this year. Castillo was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week on April 17 after giving up just one hit in nine scoreless innings against Hartford.
After being promoted to Triple-A Buffalo on May 15, Castillo allowed just two runs with the Bisons in 27.1 innings. He has a career 45-18 record with a 3.74 ERA in 107 Minor League games. Castillo is set to become the 148th former Fisher Cat to make his Major League debut and the seventh to debut this year.
The Caracas, Venezuela native was signed by the Blue Jays as an international free agent on September 25, 2015. Castillo was a mid-season All-Star with Class A Lansing in 2018 and a post-season All-Star with Class A Advanced Dunedin in 2019.
The Fisher Cats wrap up a seven-game series at Delta Dental Stadium against the Somerset Patriots (Yankees affiliate) Sunday at 1:35, followed by another six-game home series against the Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) next Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets are available at NHFisherCats.com, via email at info@nhfishercats.com, by phone at (603) 641-2005, or in-person at the Fisher Cats box office on 1 Line Drive in Manchester.
