Reading Splits Series with Portland

The Reading Fightin Phils settled for a series tie on Sunday. They dropped the contest 10-3 against the Portland Sea Dogs to wrap up a two-week homestand.

Sal Gozzo hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot. Jonathan Guzman posted two hits for the second-straight game.

Portland scored four runs on five hits in the top of the first inning to take the early lead.

Gozzo cut the lead in half during the bottom of the third inning. Chris Sharpe walked to lead off the inning and Gozzo launched his first home run of the season into right field.

The Sea Dogs extended their lead by scoring a run apiece in the top of the fourth and fifth inning.

Reading got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Guzman sent a ball to the corner in left field and legged out a triple to lead off the inning. Sharpe plated Guzman on a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-3.

The Fightins nearly scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning. Logan O'Hoppe hustled for an infield single with two outs. Jhailyn Ortiz singled to left field but both were stranded.

Portland tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh inning thanks to two singles and a double.

Kent Emanuel, who is in Reading on an MLB rehab assignment, pitched 2.2 innings. He gave up four runs on eight hits and took the loss in Sunday's contest.

Tyler McKay got the final out of the third inning. He pitched the fourth inning and gave up one run on one hit.

Matt Seelinger pitched the fifth inning and also gave up one run on one hit.

Braden Zarbnisky came on in the sixth inning and tossed a scoreless frame. He gave up a hit and struck out one batter.

Billy Sullivan gave up three runs on three hits in the seventh inning and finished with two strikeouts.

Jack Perkins pitched the eighth and ninth innings. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out two batters.

The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on June 28 at 7:00 PM.
