Durham Bulls News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Bulls second baseman Miles Mastrobuoni clubbed two hits and reached base three times, while right-hander Shane Baz struck out five of the eight batters he faced as part of a Major League Rehab Assignment, however Jumbo Shrimp first baseman Lewin Diaz homered and drove in three runs in Jacksonville's 6-3 win over Durham on Thursday evening at 121 Financial Field.
Durham got a single tally in the opening frame when Mastrobuoni came across on a force out before CF Cal Stevenson's sacrifice fly in the second made it 2-0. Diaz's solo shot in the bottom of the second would cut Durham's lead in half before Jacksonville put up a three-spot in the third, capped by Diaz's two-run single to left, to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 4-2 lead. Both teams would trade a run in the fourth to make it 5-3 before LF Jerar Encarnacion's RBI double in the fifth extended Jacksonville's advantage to three.
Mastrobuoni (2-3, R, BB, SB) led all Bulls batters with his two hits, while Diaz (2-4, R, HR, 3 RBI) and RF Peyton Burdick (2-4, 2 R, RBI) each posted multi-hit efforts for the Jumbo Shrimp. The defeat snapped Durham's six-game win streak, the club's longest such stretch of the 2022 season.
Baz (2.1 IP, H, R, ER, 0 BB, 5 SO) fanned five of eight batters faced in his first start with the Bulls after beginning a Major League Rehab Assignment. Durham reliever Dusten Knight (1.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) suffered the defeat, while Jacksonville righty Jimmy Yacabonis (2.1 IP, H, BB, 6 SO) earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Friday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Durham's starter has not yet been announced, while Jacksonville is expected to give the nod to RHP Edward Cabrera.
The Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, May 24 to start a six-game home series versus the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. First pitch of that series' opener is set for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
