Last time out...

The Freedom fell to the Miners by a score of 2-1 on Sunday. The Miners took advantage of Florence defensive miscues in the fourth to score their first run and a lead-off walk came around to score in the eighth inning on an Aaron Gates RBI single to give the Miners the lead for good. Florence starter Coleman Stephens tossed five and two thirds innings, while allowing only one hit while fanning four. Trailing 1-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth, Florence tied the game up. Andrew Godbold singled to lead off the frame and moved to third on a Sam Eberle single. Justin Harris laid down a bunt that allowed Godbold to score and Florence to tie the game at one. Tony Vocca (3-1) went two innings and allowed one run while fanning two as he suffered his first loss of the season. Pete Levitt got the final out of the eighth and Ethan Gibbons struck out the side in the ninth. Florence left eight men on base in the loss.

For Starters...

Cody Gray make his fifth start of the season tonight for the Freedom. Florence has won all four of his starts and Gray has earned the win in each of his last two starts. In his most recent outing against Rockford on July 23, Gray went as season high five and a third innings of shutout baseball, walking one and striking out 8 in a 2-0 win. Gray has thrown 12.1 consecutive innings of scoreless ball. He has 17 strikeouts over his past two starts. A product of NAIA school Northwood University, Gray went 8-3 in 12 starts in 2015, finishing with an ERA of 1.69. Impressively, Gray struck out 101 batters in 85 innings. In 2014 Gray appeared in seven games, picking up five wins. Also struck out 37 batters in 42.2 innings as a starter. Named a Pre-season All-American pitcher.

Against the Crushers...

Through 6 games against the Lake Erie Crushers so far in 2015 the Freedom have a record of 3-3. They took two of three from Lake Erie at All Pro Freight Stadium back from June 16-18. All 6 games between the Crushers and the Freedom this season have been decided by 3 runs or less.

Road Warriors...

The Freedom have won 5 consecutive road series and return to the road tonight sporting a record of 13-11 away from home in 2015. Meanwhile the Crushers have a losing record at home at 14-17.

Trying to avoid a losing streak...

If the Freedom lose tonight it would be their first three-game losing streak since June 10-12 against River City & Schaumburg.

Get on base...

Rookie and Frontier League All-Star Daniel Fraga continues to impress as he is tied for 3rd in the league in OBP (.419), BB (37), and stolen bases (21).

Offensive woes...

The Freedom have scored two or fewer runs in each of their past six games.

Walking it out...

The Freedom have drawn 220 walks this season, the second most in the league.

Run like the wind...

The Freedom's 102 stolen bases are first in the league; they have also been caught 43 times, the most in the league.

At the plate...

After hitting .263 as a team in the month of June, the Freedom have slumped to a team batting average of .229 in the month of July. Overall the Freedom have a .246 team batting average, only two points higher than Lake Erie's team average of .244. However the Freedom have out-scored the Crushers 255-205 this season.

On the mound...

The Freedom's team ERA continues to go down each month. In May the Freedom had an ERA of 5.61. In June they had an ERA of 4.31. So far in July their ERA is a sparkling 2.51.

Glovework...

The Freedom's fielding percentage of .981 is the best in the Frontier League. The three errors committed by the Freedom on Sunday were the most they've committed in one game this season.
