AVON, Ohio -- Florence Freedom right-hander Cody Gray limited the Lake Erie Crushers to just a run on five hits over seven innings, as the Freedom took the series opener on Tuesday night, with a 6-2 win over the Crushers at All Pro Freight Stadium.

The loss for the Crushers (25-33) marked the first time that they've lost the series opener in the second half, while the win for the Freedom (29-32) marked the fourth time they've won the opener in their last five series.

Gray (3-0) allowed just a run on two hits in the first inning, and allowed only three hits over the following six innings. The Freedom are 5-0 in games that Gray has started.

Both teams scored in the first inning. Zac Mitchell reached on a one out error, and eventually scored on Colling Cuthrell's RBI single through the left side. Cuthrell advanced to second on his base hit, before moving to third on a passed ball, and he scored on Sam Eberle's groundout.

Lake Erie got on the board in the bottom of the first. Chandler Brock belted a double down the right field line with one out, and scored moments later as Jose Barraza stroked a two-bagger down the left field line for Lake Erie's first run.

Florence added another run in the fifth inning on Cuthrell's RBI single, before they added three more in the sixth inning to pull away. Travis Weaver brought in the first two runs of the inning on a single through the left side of the infield, and Mitchell capped the inning with a RBI double to left.

The Crushers plated their final run in the home half of the eighth. Trevor Stevens began the inning with a walk, before advancing to second on a single from Brock. A wild pitch allowed them both to advance, and Stevens eventually scored on another wild pitch.

Gray took the victory for the Freedom, allowing just the run on five hits through seven innings and struck out five, while Zach Morton (3-2) took the loss after allowing three runs, only one earned on seven hits over five innings of action.

Anderson Hidalgo went 0-for-4, and saw his 12 game hitting streak come to an end, while Austin Prott went 1-for-4, and extended his on base streak to 26 games in the process. Brock and Barraza paced the Crushers with two hits each.

The Crushers will continue their three game series with the Florence Freedom at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday night. Left-hander Brad Zambron (2-4, 4.37) will start for the Crushers and the Freedom will counter with right-hander Chuck Weaver (3-3, 3.79). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
