Normal CornBelters News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, did not support a complete game three-hitter from Mike Schweiss and lost 1-0 to the Traverse City Beach Bums on Tuesday night at Wuerfel Park.

Pitchers ruled until the Beach Bums finally broke onto the scoreboard in the seventh inning with a lead-off single by Alex Tomasovich, who was sacrificed to second and singled home by Reggie Lawson.

Alex Phillips (2-2) earned the win in relief of starter Anthony Montefusco, who left in the fourth inning with an apparent injury. Andrew Brockett allowed a lead-off single by Mark Micowski but stranded the Belter at second base to pick up his 17th save.

Schweiss (4-7) recorded the third complete game of the season for the CornBelters, but the second complete game loss. He gave up three hits while striking out seven without a walk.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. Central on Wednesday as Chris Carmain (4-2, 3.31 ERA) makes his first CornBelters start since June 19 while Michael Shreves (5-1, 2.17) takes the ball for the Beach Bums in a match-up of right-handers. Broadcast time on WEZC-FM 95.9 and WJBC.com is 5:50 with listen live links available on Facebook, Twitter (@normal_baseball) and www.normalbaseball.com.
