Joliet Slammers News Release

JOLIET SLAMMERS (17-23) @ ROCKFORD RIVERHAWKS (15-24)

Sunday, July 1 - 6:05 p.m. CT RiverHawks Stadium - Loves Park, IL Game #41 - Road Game #20 (17-23), (9-10)

RHP #28 Jim Schult (2-2, 5.13 ERA) vs. RHP #12 Cody Hallahan (1-4, 4.66 ERA)

Last time out...

After opening the game with five unanswered runs, the Joliet Slammers fell apart late in Saturday's game, giving up 11 unanswered runs to the Rockford lineup in the 11-5 loss. The Slammers pulled out to an encouraging 5-0 lead in the first inning off a run-scoring single from Erik Lis, a bases-clearing three-run double by David Fox, and picked up a free run off a balk from Rockford starter Jack Crawford. Joliet was held scoreless from then on. The RiverHawks put two runs on the board in the fifth off a double by Javier Herrera. The Hawks blew the game open in the seventh with nine runs, forcing Joliet to use up three relief pitchers in the inning. They put up five hits, one of which was a grand slam by Jet Butler, and drew four walks. The score was 11-5 after seven, and Rockford held on for the win.

For Starters...

Jim Schult is making his fourth start of the season tonight for the Slammers. He's excelled as a starting pitcher, posting a 1-1 record with a 1.24 ERA since moving to the rotation. Schult went seven innings against Windy City on June 25 in his most recent outing, giving up only one run on four hits while striking out three. Schult brings professional experience to the fold as the Eastern Connecticut State alum spent 2011 in the Canadian-American Association with the NYSL Federals. The traveling team struggled but Schult finished the season with 10 starts and his ERA was the best on the team among pitchers with 10 or more starts that season.

June swoon...

The Slammers posted a 10-17 record in the month of June. It was the first losing month in franchise history.

Putting it together...

David Fox drove in three runs last night, his team-leading sixth multi-RBI game of the season.

Rock bottom?

The Slammers are a season high eight games out of first place and a season worst 6 games under .500. They have lost 10 of their past 13 games.

Losing streak...

The Slammers currently have a four-game losing streak. With a loss tonight they would set a new franchise record for longest losing streak.

Abel is able...

Abel Nieves currently leads the Slammers in batting average (.356), Hits (48), Total Bases (66), OBP (.447), SLG (.489) and OPS (.936).

Plunked...

The Slammers' pitchers have hit 38 batters on the season, most in the Frontier League.

Walks and K's...

Slammers second baseman Hector Pellot leads the club in walks (26) and strike outs (29).

Playing from behind...

The opponent has scored first in 24 games against Joliet. The Slammers are 7-17 in those games.

Mandelblatt up and down...

Zach Mandelblatt leads the Slammers in HR with 4 and is tied for the team lead in RBI with 23. But he is last on the team in batting average as he's only hitting .202 on the season

Error indicator...

The Slammers are 3-17 in games when they make an error. They are 14-6 in games when they do not.

Out-hit...

When the Slammers out-hit an opponent they are 14-5, but when the opponent out-hits the Slammers Joliet has a record of 2-18.
