Joliet Slammers News Release

(Rockford, IL)- The Slammers recovered on Saturday in a 4-1 win over the Rockford Riverhawks to break their four-game losing streak.

Things didn't start off great for Joliet, though. Slammers starter Jim Schult gave up a run in the first inning to Rockford off a run-scoring double from Matt Greener.

Joliet, however, pulled ahead in the second. In a two-out rally, Erik Lis doubled, and Kyle Maunus cleared the bases on a two-run home run. The Slammers never looked back, and the pitching staff kept the Riverhawks scoreless after Joliet got on the board.

The Slammers made it 3-1 in the fourth on a run-scoring double by David Fox, his second in as many days, and added another run in the fifth when Abel Nieves brought home Jimmy Waters on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.

Jim Schult was again fantastic in the start, tossing nearly seven innings on just one run. Chase Doremus threw perfect relief, and Amalio Diaz notched the save.

The Slammers wrap up their visit with the Rockford Riverhawks in game three Monday at 7:05pm. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse calling the action.
