Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA, CA - LHP Josh Taylor tied a career high with 13 strikeouts in seven innings of work in his best outing of the season as the Visalia Rawhide (39-21) rolled to a 4-1 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks (32-28) for their sixth straight victory on Friday night at Recreation Ballpark.
Taylor (2-5, 5.05), who previously struck out 13 on July 31st, 2015 in a complete game win while a member of the Kane County Cougars, struck out the Lancaster side three times throughout the evening; including twice for one, two, three innings.
The Rawhide jumped out to an early lead in the first inning for the second night in a row against RHP Brock Dykxhoorn (4-2, 3.83) when DH Rudy Flores knocked in 1B Marty Herum with a two-out double to begin the scoring. 2B Henry Castillo followed with an RBI single scoring Flores for the 2-0 advantage.
Taylor's only blemish came in the second when RF Drew Ferguson doubled and scored two batters later when SS Luis Reynoso singled to cut the lead in half at 2-1 Rawhide.
Taylor continued his mastery, at one point from the second until the fifth inning retiring 10 JetHawks in a row.
Visalia scored an unearned tally in the fifth when CF Colin Bray was hit by a pitch. A walk to SS Domingo Leyba moved him to second and a throwing error moved Bray to third before he scored on Flores's second two-out RBI for a 3-1 lead.
That was the end of the night for Dykxhoorn, who pitched five innings and allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) with three walks and four strikeouts. Dykxhoorn took his second loss of the season and both have come against Visalia.
In the sixth inning against RHP Jacob Dorris Visalia scored their final tally of the game. 3B Dawel Lugo walked, a RF Victor Reyes groundout moved Lugo to second and he scored on C Oscar Hernandez's RBI double to make it 4-1 Rawhide.
That was more than enough for Taylor, who pitched seven innings for a new season high and allowed six hits, one run (earned) and struck out 13 without issuing a walk to earn the victory.
LHP Gabriel Moya pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth and RHP Bud Jeter (SV 7) pitched a one, two, three ninth for his seventh save of the season.
The Rawhide have won six straight and now look to win the series tomorrow night and inch ever closer to clinching the first half North Division Championship for the second consecutive year. RHP Brad Keller (4-4, 4.59) will go for Visalia against RHP Scott Weathersby (2-3, 5.95) for Lancaster.
