LAREDO - Jose Canseco hit a monster home run to left-center field on the third pitch of the first at-bat of his United League Baseball debut as the Laredo Broncos beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 16-8 Monday at Veterans Field.

The WhiteWings (38-40) are now tied for fourth place with the San Angelo Colts while the Broncos stand alone in third.

Canseco came up against Luis Carreras with a runner at first and nobody out in the bottom of the eighth, but bounced into a double-play on the eighth pitch of the at-bat.

The WhiteWings responded against Jeff Jamnik (4-3) in the top of the fifth. Luany Sanchez hit a three-run home run against his former team and Leivi Ventura later singled and scored on a pair of two-out errors to tie the game at 4-4.

The Broncos sent 10 men to the plate while scoring five runs on five hits in the fifth to take a 9-4 lead.

Javis Diaz responded with a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to bring the WhiteWings within 9-6, but the Broncos sent nine men to the plate in the bottom of the inning to score six runs, including Canseco's blast, to put the game away.
