
Dillas split doubleheader with Thunder, falling 13-1 then winning 9-1

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas were dominated by the Coastal Bend Thunder in doubleheader game one by a score of 13-1, but they responded in game two with a dominant pitching performance from Turner Brasher in game two for a 9-1 win to split the doubleheader on Sunday night in front of 1,542 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Brasher (2-0) got the win in game two, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out five. Taylor Allen (3-3) got the loss in game one, giving up 11 hits in an out short of three innings. For the Thunder, game one starter Luis Martinez (1-1) went all six innings and allowed only one run on a solo homer. In game two, Jacob Liedka (1-4) got the loss, allowing nine runs in an out less than four innings of work.
In game one, the Dillas found themselves down early in the first inning as the Thunder scored four runs off two hits and two errors for a four-run lead. Julio Martinez led off for the Dillas in the second and hit a solo homerun for a 4-1 deficit.
The Thunder responded with an unearned run in the second, six runs off seven hits in the third and two runs off three hits in the fourth inning for a 13-1 advantage.
Amarillo couldn't get back on the scoreboard to fall in game one 13-1.
In game two, the Dillas broke through with a big first inning. Joaquin Rodriguez walked, Carlos Figueroa singled and Martinez walked to load the bases. Stephen Douglas reached on an error to score Rodriguez while Figueroa and Martinez crossed home on a 2-RBI ground-ruled double by Alberto Cruz. Rob Recuenco hit an RBI groundout while Kevin Butler hit an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.
Amarillo added another in the second as Adam De La Garza singled, stole second and scored on a Figueroa RBI single for a six-run lead, while Andrew Wong hit a solo homerun in the fourth while Douglas hit a two-run shot for a 9-0 Dillas advantage.
The Thunder got their first runs of game two in the fifth inning as Mike Goss walked to lead off, went to second on a Gianican Rosa single and scored on an RBI single by Guy for a 9-1 deficit.
Reliever Chris Ingoglia shut down the Thunder after that point to give the Dillas an eight-run win in game two to split the doubleheader.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 45-34 while the Colts fall to 28-50. Monday, Amarillo will take on the Thunder for the third game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
