
Jones Lifts Roadrunners Past Colts

SAN ANGELO, Texas---Daryl Jones went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs batted in and four runs scored as the Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the San Angelo Colts 7-5 Monday night at Foster Field.
Edinburg holds a one half game lead over the Amarillo Dillas, who won Monday night, for first place in the United League standings.
The Roadrunners (45-31) got on the board against Brian Henschel (5-8) in the top of the first. Wilmer Pino started the game with a single then stole second. After moving to third on a single by Nelson Teilon, Pino came into score on an RBI ground out by Daryl Jones giving Edinburg the 1-0 lead.
Osiel Flores started the top of the second by getting hit by a pitch and then moved to second after a walk to Albert Gonzalez. After a single by Pino loaded the bases, Robert Matlock followed with a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Flores to score extending the Roadrunners lead 2-0.
The Colts (38-40) got on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run by Landon Camp off of Eric Montoya (9-2) that cut Edinburg's lead 2-1.
Daryl Jones led off the top of the third with his first home run as a Roadrunner making the score 3-1.
In the top of the fifth, Jones walked with one out in the inning and then stole second base. Jones then moved to third on a ground out and later came into score on an RBI triple by Carlos Hereaud extending the Roadrunners lead 4-1.
San Angelo picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth when Mark Ramos scored on a double play off the bat of Joshua Collazo cutting Edinburg's lead in half 4-2.
That would be it for Montoya who picked up his league leading ninth win of the season after pitching six innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out eight.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Jones reached on an infield single then moved to second on a ground out. Hereaud followed with a single but a fielding error allowed Jones to score making it 5-2 Roadrunners.
Adam Matos started the top of the eighth with a one-out single and then stole second. Pino then hit an RBI double to deep left field off of Caleb Rodgers that allowed Matos to score making it 6-2.
The Colts inched closer in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Carlos Rangel. After two quick outs, back-to-back hits by Jason Landreth and Collazo kept the inning alive for Alex Fernandez who hit a three-run home run cutting the Roadrunners lead 6-5.
Edinburg got an insurance run in the top of the ninth with Jones' second home run of the game extending their lead 7-5.
Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his 21st save of the season to give Edinburg the 7-5 victory.
The Roadrunners and Colts will play the third game of this series Tuesday night at Foster Field. Mark DiBernardo (6-5) is expected to face Brett Bukvich (0-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
