San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg first-baseman Daryl Jones went 3-4 with two homers, three RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base to lead the Roadrunners to a 7-5 win over the San Angelo Colts on Monday night at Foster Field in game two of a four-game series.
Edinburg got the scoring started in the first on an RBI fielder's choice by Jones. They would add another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by left-fielder Robert Matlock to make the score 2-0 Roadrunners.
The Colts would then cut the lead in half in the second inning on a solo-homerun by third-baseman Landon Camp, his 20th of the season and second of the series. Edinburg, however, would score the next two runs on a solo homer by Jones (10) in the third, and an RBI triple by third-baseman Carlos Hereaud in the fifth to give the Roadrunners a 4-1 lead.
San Angelo would scratch a run across on a double-play ball by first-baseman Josh Collazo in the sixth to make it 4-2. However the Roadrunners would get the run right back in the seventh. With Jones at second and two out Hereaud reach on an infield single. On the play, Jones scored from second as Collazo's throw to home was off target, charging an error to the San Angelo first-sacker.
Edinburg extended their lead to 6-2 in the eighth on an RBI double by second-baseman Wilmer Pino, before things got interesting.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Colts scored three-runs on a three-run homer from left fielder Alex Fernandez (4) to make the score 6-5 Edinburg. With two out and no one on, third-baseman Jason Crosland reached first base on a walk then stole second. However, Roadrunner reliever Ray Silva got Camp to strike out swinging to end the eighth with Edinburg holding a one-run lead.
The Roadrunners then got some much needed insurance in the ninth as Jones continued his spectacular night with his second solo-homer (11) to give Edinburg a 7-5 advantage.
Closer Julio Castro would then come in and pitch a scoreless ninth to pick up his 21st save of the season.
In addition to Jones, Pino went 5-5 with four singles, a double, an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases. He is now 8-9 for the series, while Hereaud went 4-5 with a triple, three singles and an RBI to pace Edinburg. In addition, the Roadrunners stole six bases on the night.
San Angelo was led by Fernandez who went 2-4 with a homer, double, three RBI and a run scored. Second-baseman Mark Ramos also chipped in by going 2-4 with a single, double, two stolen bases and a run scored.
Eric Montoya (9-4) got the win after allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out eight in six innings of work. Brian Henschel (5-8) took the loss for San Angelo after giving up six runs on 13 hits in 7.1 innings.
