DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 2, 2014) - Miracle right-hander Jose Berrios was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the time period of May 26 to June 2 as announced by the league offices on Monday afternoon.

Berrios, 20, made one start on Sunday, June 1 and pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout allowing just one hit. The native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico set a new season and career-high with 13 strikeouts against the Tampa Yankees.

In a 3-0 win by the Miracle, Berrios retired the first 13 Yankee hitters consecutively before giving up a hit in the fifth inning. Berrios faced just 23 batters in seven innings and earned his fifth win of the season. Jose is now 5-2 with an overall earned run average at 2.24. Berrios is second in the FSL in strikeouts with 65.

Winning five of his last seven starts, Berrios has fanned 56 in his last 42.1 innings pitched. In his last five appearances, Berrios has given up just three earned runs for an ERA of 0.86 over that stretch.

The Miracle continue a four-game set with the Tampa Yankees with game three tonight at Hammond Stadium. Fort Myers (33-22) is currently a half-game ahead of the St. Lucie Mets (33-23) in the Florida State League South Division standings.
