Dunedin Blue Jays RF Marcus Knecht Named FSL Player of the Week

DUNEDIN, FL - The Florida State League has named Blue Jays RF and Toronto native Marcus Knecht Player of the Week for the period of May 26 - June 2. In five games, Knecht went 11-for-21 (.524) with a triple, three doubles, four runs and eight RBIs. During the past week, his OBP was .583 and he slugged .762.
In Dunedin's three-game series in Charlotte last Tuesday-Thursday, Knecht went 9-for-13 with seven RBIs.
In his last 15 games since returning from a week-long stint on the disabled list, Knecht is hitting .400 with eight extra base hits and an OPS of 1.021. The 23-year-old from Toronto, Ontario has knocked in 14 runs over the last two weeks, which is the most in the Florida State League over that time period.
Knecht has raised his batting average 81 points since May 17 and is now hitting .270 this season. He hit .361 in the month of May, and is batting .310 with runners on base this year.
After drawing 11 walks in the first 36 games of the season, Knecht has been issued three free passes in his last four contests, and he has struck out just twice in the last five games.
The Blue Jays selected Knecht in the third round of the 2010 draft out of Connors State Junior College in Warner, Oklahoma. Baseball America named Knecht the top power hitter in the Blue Jays organization entering the 2011 season.
He joins teammates CF Dalton Pompey and LHP Matt Boyd (twice) as recipients of weekly Florida State League honors.
