Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Colin Kleven ran into trouble early as the Clearwater Threshers fell to the Bradenton Marauders, 5-0, Monday night at Bright House Field.
Kleven's issues came in the second inning. The righty allowed five runs on six hits in the frame.
Bradenton (29-28) would get its first four batters on base and take a 2-0 lead before recording an out. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Walker Gourley, who had a two-RBI single to left to extend the Marauders' lead to 4-0. Josh Bell would add an RBI double to finish off the scoring.
Outside of the rough inning, Kleven was effective, allowing nine hits in five innings of work, while striking out three.
Ramon Oviedo came on for Kleven (1-7) to keep the Threshers within reach and pitched two solid innings.
Oviedo did run into trouble in the seventh, getting into a bases-loaded situation with two outs. The righty was able to work out of the jam by getting Adam Frazier to fly out to left to end the Marauders' threat.
Shawn Camp and Lee Ridenhour would finish out the game for the Threshers, allowing no runs in their two innings of work.
Clearwater (12-44) had its chances in the middle innings off of Marauders' starter Tyler Glasnow (2-3). The Threshers got the leadoff man aboard in the third through sixth innings, but were unable to take advantage.
The Threshers' best scoring chance came in the fifth when Brian Pointer and Angelo Mora reached on walks to lead off the inning. However, the base runners were left stranded after the next three Threshers' batters failed to hit the ball out of the infield.
Gabriel Lino was able to draw a walk with two outs in the ninth, but would be left stranded after Pointer grounded out to end the game.
The Threshers will look to earn a series split Tuesday night against the Marauders with game time set for 7 p.m. The game can be heard live starting at 6:45 p.m. on threshersbaseball.com.
