Jonathan Sirois Signs Contract Extension
March 11, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced on Friday that goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois signed a one-year contract extension in 2023 with an option year in 2024. The Club also announced that Sirois and midfielder Sean Rea have both returned on loan to Valour FC of the Canadian Premier League. The loans run through to the end of the 2022 season with CF Montréal reserving the right to terminate the loan at any time.
"Following the positive experiences of our players on loan in 2021, we opted to do so again this season," said CF Montréal Sporting Director Olivier Renard. "These loans allow them to log crucial minutes at a competitive level that is beneficial to their development. Although they will be pursuing their development externally, they will gain experience and we will continue to closely monitor their progress."
Loaned to Valour FC in 2021, Sirois played 24 matches with the Manitoban club. In 2,160 minutes of game time, he led the league with 94 saves and nine clean sheets. He was named 2021 CPL Goalkeeper of the Year by a panel of media writers and reporters from across Canada. The 20-year-old Montrealer signed his first professional contract with CF Montréal on March 6, 2020. He joined the Academy in 2015 after playing with amateur club Spatial Saint-Hubert.
Rea also spent 2021 on loan with Valour FC where he played 23 CPL matches in addition to two Canadian Championship games. He collected one goal and four assists in 1,176 minutes. He notably scored his first professional goal in a 3-2 win against Atlético Ottawa in the preliminary round of the 2021 Canadian Championship at TD Place. The 19-year-old signed his first contract with CF Montréal's first team on December 4, 2020 and joined the Academy in 2014. He also represented Canada at the U17 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, in 2019.
Transaction: Goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois signed a one-year contract extension in 2023 with an option year in 2024. Sirois and midfielder Sean Rea have both returned on loan to Valour FC of the Canadian Premier League.
