Jon Bachanov placed on DL; Matt Oye arrives from Orem

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that RHP Jon Bachanov has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with right elbow nerve irritation and that RHP Matt Oye will join the Kernels from the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Sunday.
The Angels signed Oye as a non-drafted free agent out of Washington State University in 2009 and he spent last year with the AZL Angels, posting a 2-0 record and 2.57 ERA in seven games with two starts. In 14 IP, he allowed 11 hits and six runs (four earned) with one walk and 10 strikeouts. He appeared in three games with Orem this year, with a 1.69 ERA and a save in 5.1 IP.
Bachanov pitched in 18 games for the Kernels, all in relief, with a 2-0 record, 5.47 ERA and two saves. In 26.1 IP, he allowed 31 hits and 17 runs (16 earned) with 14 walks and 23 strikeouts.
Oye will join the Kernels in Peoria and be available for today's 1:00 pm game with the Chiefs. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with two players currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels are in the midst of a six game road trip and return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, July 1st. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
