Joliet Slams Three Homers, Salvages Series Finale

JOLIET, Ill. - Hector Pellot hit two home runs Sunday as the Joliet Slammers salvaged the finale of a three-game series with a 12-10 win over the Rockford RiverHawks at Silver Cross Field.
Pellot, homerless in his first 23 games this year and activated from the disabled list prior to Sunday's contest, drove in five with his two blasts well beyond the left-field wall. Pellot's first home run, a two-on, two-shot that capped a nine-batter, six-run Joliet second inning, drove in the go-ahead runs. Pellot added a two-run homer in the sixth.
Kyle Maunus hit his ninth homer of the year for Joliet, which had an 11-4 lead after six innings.
Jason James, Freddy Parejo and Jake Eigsti each homered for the RiverHawks, who didn't score without a long ball until the ninth inning. James hit his RiverHawks-record 45th career homer - his first since he returned to the RiverHawks after a half-season with Fargo in the American Association - with two on in the first inning. Parejo led off the fifth with his first homer and Eigsti hit a grand slam in the seventh to cut a seven-run gulf to a three-run deficit.
Eigsti, with 19 homers in two years with Rockford, tied Brandon Cohen and Gooby Gerlits for fifth on the all-time list.
Joliet starter Tommy Mendoza (2-1) gave up four runs on six hits over six innings and got the win. Rockford starter Chris Nyman (0-1) gave up seven runs, four earned, on six hits and lasted three innings in his Frontier League debut.
Rockford rallied for two in the ninth off closer Ryan Quigley, who pitched in a non-save situation, and had the possible tying run at the plate when the game ended.
Rockford's three-game losing streak ended with the loss.
The RiverHawks open a three-game series at Lake Erie at 6:05 p.m. CDT Monday. The game will be aired live on ESPN 1380.
The RiverHawks' next home game is at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, when they host Washington on a Miller Lite/RBI's Thirsty Thursday.
