Rascals Lose on Walk-Off Homerun

River City Rascals News Release


Marion, Ill. - River City clung to a 3-2 lead for five innings before Southern Illinois broke through with a two-out three-run walk-off homer from Sam Whiley that ended a four-game win streak for the Rascals (35-15).

With the score tied at two entering the fourth, Joash Brodin hit his ninth long ball to give Zach Sterner the lead. Sterner the seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with a season-high eight strikeouts. The Miners (32-18) threatened in the sixth with consecutive singles to start the inning but Sterner enduced a double play and got the strikeout to end the frame.

After Derrick Miramontes held the eigth, Kirkland Rivers started the ninth by giving up a double to Sean Caughlin. A sacrifice hit fallowed by a strikeout and walk before Wiley, signed to a contract just before the game, ended it.

River City begins a three game series in Normal, Ill against the Corn Belters Monday night at 7:00.
