Omaha Beef News Release
Omaha, Nebraska â Take a few minutes of your time to spend with James Johnson and your assumptions of a tough, rugged football player would vanish almost instantly. James is one of the most caring individuals on the Omaha Beef Football team that anyone will ever run across. Johnson said, "Most people don't look at me as a deep hearted, caring individual who goes out of the way to get to know someone." He also thinks of himself as being easy to get along with and a very friendly person.
Johnson was born and raised in Omaha. He is currently a student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha majoring in Management Information Systems. He would like to have a chance at an internship before he leaves school, working on computers or something in a related field. Johnson is also a familiar face for the Omaha Mavericks, rushing for 1,046 yards in 2002 and was named to the All North Central Conference team as a running back. An impact player for the Beef, Johnson is averaging 3.3 yards per carry and has accumulated five touchdowns this season. When asked what does he like about football and playing for the Beef, his response was, "The team aspect and the competition of being on the edge that football brings, and for the Beef, being able to play in front of your hometown crowd with the people you grew up with."
When Johnson isn't in the library cramming hard for exams or on the practice field studying the game tape, he tries to ease the stress by playing PlayStation, reading the books of Harry Potter or even catching a movie with the guys. He feels that these hobbies help him stay focused when the going gets tough. When the times do get tough, Johnson thinks back to the advice that his mom gave him. He states, "No matter the up or downs, life keeps on going." He lives by this quote today, especially two years ago when his older sister experienced an almost death threatening tragedy. Johnson says, "When that event happened it made me change my views on life and start living each day one at a time."
Recently Johnson added a new member to his family, having a baby boy in January by the name of Braylen James Johnson weighing 6lbs, 7oz.
