
Two Drillers sweep NIFL weekly honors

BEAUMONT, TX -- For the first time in franchise history, two Beaumont Drillers' players have swept the NIFL Atlantic Conference "Offensive" and "Defensive" Player of the Week honors.
Quarterback Marc Saldana received the Offensive Player of the Week honors leading the Driller offense to an 84-77 overtime victory over Utah last week. He set career-highs passing for 259 yards (career best) on 18 of 29 attempts with 9 (career best) total touchdowns, 7 through the air and 2 rushing. He also completed two, 2-point conversions. For the season, Saldana is 114-191 for 1,299 yards with 29 touchdowns and 8 interceptions having just played in 9 of 11 games.
For the second time this season, Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Roy Locks. Locks, a former WO-S Mustang and Northwestern State product, tallied 4 solo tackles and 3 assists, including 2.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 pass breakups and 1 blocked field goal. Locks is 4th on the team with 46.5 total tackles and tied for 1st with 3 blocked kicks.
The Drillers (7-4) visit first place Houma (8-2) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
