Johnson Placed on DL, Bates Activated

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have placed Sea Dogs' outfielder Jay Johnson on the disabled list. Infielder Aaron Bates was activated from the temporary inactive list. The Sea Dogs continue their series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) Tuesday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field.

The 25 year-old Johnson was the hero for the Sea Dogs last Wednesday in the Sea Dogs 17 inning marathon against Connecticut. Johnson pitched the 16th and 17th innings and earned the win becoming the first Sea Dogs position player to collect a win. Johnson also added the game winning hit in the bottom of the 17th inning, ending the longest game in Sea Dogs history. The Crestview Hills, Kentucky resident has appeared in 12 games for the Sea Dogs this season hitting .256 with two doubles and 10 RBI. He was selected by the Red Sox in the 13th round of the June 2005 draft.

Bates, 24 years-old, has been away from the team since April 17th. He has appeared in 12 games for Portland hitting .245 with two doubles and six RBI. Last season he was a California League All-Star with the Lancaster JetHawks and led all Red Sox farm hands with 28 home runs. He was a third round pick of the Red Sox in the June 2006 draft.
