Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The Curve extended their winning streak to a season-high three games with a trio of Curve pitchers combining on a three-hitter as Altoona thumped the Akron Aeros, 7-1, Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark.
Jimmy Barthmaier (2-0), Dave Davidson and Kyle Bloom combined forces on the stellar performance. Barthmaier tossed six innings and allowed just one run on two hits, Davidson did not allow a run over two innings, and Bloom tossed a scoreless ninth to draw the Curve's overall record to 9-9, marking the first time Altoona has reached the .500 plateau this year.
Altoona scored a pair of runs in the first, and one run in the third and never trailed in the contest. However, most of the game's fireworks happened in the top of the seventh after Akron starter Frank Herrmann (2-1) left the game in favor of relievers Scott Roehl and T.J. Burton. The Curve sent nine men to the plate against the duo as they racked up a pair of hits, drew two walks, reached on an error and a hit batsmen. Jason Delaney, who finished the night 2-for-2 with three RBI, provided the big blow with a two-out, two-run single putting the game out of reach and extending Altoona's lead to 7-1.
The Curve will look for their first sweep of the season Wednesday morning at 10:35 a.m. as they'll send right-hander Yoslan Herrera (1-1, 4.50) to the mound in search of his second victory. Akron will counter with lefty Ryan Edell (0-0, 3.31). Great seats for Wednesday morning's contest are still available. Fans that bring a Giant Eagle Advantage Card to the game can buy one ticket in the UPMC Health Plan Home Run Junction (outfield bleachers) at regular price and receive a second ticket free. Tickets can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE, by logging on to AltoonaCurve.com, or in person at the Blair County Ballpark.
NOTES - James Boone extended his hitting streak to seven games, going 2-for-4 Tuesday night...Brad Corley, who had a pair of RBI in the game was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning and have to leave the ball game...With the victory, the Curve have won five games in their last six contests...The nine strikeouts racked up by Curve pitching Tuesday night tied a season high, which has been done twice so far in 2008
