Brockton Rox News Release

West Haven, CT (June 1, 2007) - DH Guye Senjem and C Jason Radwan hit early-inning solo homeruns and RHP John Kelly tossed six shutout innings as the Rox defeated the New Haven County Cutters 4-2 at Yale Field in West Haven, CT. Brockton has won all five meetings between the two teams this year and is off to a 6-2 start. CF Joe Hough broke a 0-16 slump with three hits and a walk out of the leadoff spot. RHP Ryan Burnau pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.

Senjem's first inning HR broke an 0-15 slump and was just the third longball for the Rox in 2007. One inning later, Radwan's deep fly over the left field wall gave the Rox a 2-0 advantage. Kelly made it hold up. Despite four walks, Kelly battled in his second start, allowing just three hits in the contest while striking out five. He stranded the bases loaded in the fifth inning and has thrown 10 straight scoreless frames.

In the seventh, a SS Lino Mariot double-play groundout scored RF Matt Maloney, whose single in the inning extended his hitting streak to seven games. Hough's third hit of the night, and infield single to the left side, plated 3B Fredy De La Cruz and made it 4-0 Rox.

The Cutters scored a run against RHP Kyle George in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double off the bat of 2B Matt Mercurio and had the bases full with no outs. But George induced a popup and two strikeouts and preserved a 4-1 lead. SS Chas Terni's solo HR in the ninth was too little, too late for the Cutters as Burnau closed out his second save of 2007.

RHP Gary Galvez (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will follow up his seven shutout innings in Monday's win over Atlantic City on Saturday 7:05 PM against Cutters' RHP Joslin Ramirez (1-0, 11.81 ERA).
