New Haven County Cutters News Release
WEST HAVEN, CT- The New Haven County Cutters could not come by with the big offensive blow and left 12 base runners on in a 4-2 defeat by the Brockton Rox, Friday night, in game two of a three-game series at Historic Yale Field.
Solo home runs from designated hitter Guye Senjem (1) and catcher Jason Radwan (1) staked the Rox to an early 2-0 lead.
A two-run Rox' rally in the seventh inning extended the Cutters' deficit to 4-0.
The Cutters made it 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when second baseman Matt Mercurio drove an RBI double into right centerfield.
Shortstop Chas Terni's towering home run (1) off the left field scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth made the game 4-2.
The Cutters' bats threatened a number of times but came up empty throughout the game including in the fifth inning when, with a runner on first, centerfielder Ervin Alcantara's long fly ball over the right field fence was caught in a diving effort by Rox' outfielder Matt Maloney - costing the Cutters two runs.
Rox' starter RHP John Kelly (1-0) held the Cutters scoreless in his 6.0 innings of work, allowing just three hits and fanning five to earn the win.
RHP Ryan Burnau pitched the ninth for the Rox and picked up the save (2).
Cutters' starter LHP Ryan Bonesio (0-1) was effective in his 7.0 innings, yielding four runs on nine hits but suffered the loss.
Reliever Mike Joyce pitched the Cutters out of an eighth inning jam and, overall, threw 2.0 strong innings of relief.
The Cutters close out their three-game series with the Rox Saturday night. Game time is 7:05 pm.
RHP Joslin Ramirez (1-0, 11.81 ERA) will start for the Cutters with the Rox countering with RHP Gary Galvez (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
