Skyhawks Struggles Continue

June 1, 2007 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release

The Sussex Skyhawks struggles continued as they dropped another close one 2-1 to the Can-Am Grays. Despite picking up his second loss of the 2007 season, Ryan Lobban gave the Skyhawks all they could hope for pitching 6.1 innings of 2 run baseball. The Skyhawk offense once again was non-existence as they only scored 1 run on 6 hits against Elliott Shaw for the Grays. The Skyhawks dropped their fifth in a row and move to 1-7 to the bottom of the Can-Am League.

The Grays struck in the first inning as Tyrone Pendergrass and Josh Colafemina lead the game off with back-to-back singles. Pendergrass would score later on in the inning off the double play ball of Chad Gabriel. The Skyhawks bats would be silenced until the 6th inning when Jabe Bergeron, who went 3-4 with the lone RBI for the Skyhawks, drove in Kevin Rios to tie the ball game at 1-1.

The Grays would wait little time to tie the game back up. In the bottom of the 6th inning JB Tucker hit home the go ahead run in Josh Colafemina. The Skyhawks bats would once again be silenced until the top of the 9th inning when Jerry Dunn came in to close the game for the Grays. Jabe Bergeron lead the 9th inning off with a double, but would wind up stranded at third base when Scott Grimes and Matt Ceriani stuck out back to back to end the game.

Ryan Lobban picks up his second loss of the season falling to 0-2. Elliot Shaw picks up his first win of the 2007 season moving to 1-1. Jerry Dunn records his third save. The Skyhawks will send newly acquired starting pitching Vince Davis to the mound tomorrow against opposing pitcher Craig Snipp. The Grays move to 5-3 while the Skyhawks fall to 1-7.
