New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals were firing on all cylinders in the first game of this three game series against the Nashua Pride as they took the game in dominating fashion, 8-1.

On the mound for the Jackals was left handed pitcher Josh Brey. Brey was strong from the get go and finished with the kind of start that the Jackal squad has come to expect from the pitching staff this year. Brey finished 7 innings pitched, 2 strikeouts, and allowing just one earned run on 5 hits.

The start for Brey, who was scheduled to start the second game of the series, came as a surprise when a game time decision was made to start him rather than the scheduled starter, Aaron Looper. Looper was scratched from the game due to pain in his arm.

Offensively, the Jackals jumped out to a quick start and never looked back. Right fielder Francisco Leandro started off the inning, as he has all season, by getting on base with a single. Second baseman Zack Smithlin singled in the next at bat, and then first baseman Sandy Madera completed the back-to-back-to-back singles sequence, driving in Leandro. Catcher Clay Kuklick started off his impressive day with an RBI single, and then Jud Thigpen ripped another RBI single, giving the Jackals a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

The Jackals would score three runs again in the third inning thanks to designated hitter Matt Lauderdale's two-run blast over the left field wall. Thigpen followed that at bat with a double, and was brought around to score on center fielder Tim Turner's sacrifice fly to center.

The Jackals capped off the scoring in the eighth inning, thanks in large part to Wilton Veras' two out triple, his first base hit of the season in his first game of the season. Kuklick would come through again with an RBI single, giving the Jackals an 8-1 lead. Kucklick finished 4-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Brey earned his second victory of the season while Nashua's Tom Thornton took the loss
