Joey Gathright's Three Hits Help Ducks Take Series

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 26, 2010) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 6-2 on Thursday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,278 at Suffolk County Sports Park.

Long Island claimed the game's first run in the last of the first inning when Robinson Cancel ripped a RBI single through the left side off Revs' starter Tim Harikkala.

The lead didn't last long as Erold Andrus' RBI sacrifice fly and Sandy DeLeon's RBI single through the middle gave York a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning.

Long Island grabbed the lead back with a three-spot in the bottom of the fourth inning. Joey Gathright's two-run triple and Ray Navarrete's RBI sacrifice fly gave the Flock a 4-2 advantage.

The Ducks tackedon single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away. A run-scoring wild pitch in the seventh and Gathright's RBI single in the eighth helped Long Island open up a 6-2 lead, which they never relinquished.

Ducks' starter Daryl Harang (4-2) picked up the victory, tossing six and one-third innings, surrendering 10 hits and two runs, with one strikeout. Harikkala (0-1) absorbed the loss, yielding four runs (two earned) in his five and one-third innings of work. Ivan Maldonado and Ricardo Gomez fired two and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief to seal the game.

Gathright finished with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored, while Cancel chipped in with three hits and a RBI as well.

Long Island will now begin a six-game roadtrip beginning on Friday against the Bridgeport Bluefish. Game time is set for 7:05 PM from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Long Island returns to Suffolk County Sports Park on Friday, September 3rd to begin a four-game series against the Bluefish. Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans will receive Ducks Water Bottles, presented by New York State Nurses Association.
