Bears Ready for Playoff Push

(Newark, N.J., Aug. 26. 2010) - Following their seven-game road trip, the Newark Bears return home on Friday, August 27 to kick-off a six-game home stand against two strong opponents: the York Revolution and the Bridgeport Bluefish.

The Bears are 5-4 at home in the month of August and have 10 combined wins over the 'Revs and Fish in 19 games this season. Come out and cheer this week and enjoy these exciting promotions:

Friday, August 27th, 7:05 vs. York (6:05 gates) - The Bears open a three-game weekend series with the York Revolution. Newark looks to pick up their fourth series-opening win in the second half at home and continue a strong month of August at the 'Den. The Bears and American Red Cross will also be collecting donations throughout the night for the displaced victims of the August 11th fires that destroyed or damaged seven homes on South 20thStreet.

Saturday, August 28th, 7:05 p.m. vs. York (6:05 gates) - Newark and the 'Revs continue the series on Saturday night in Newark. NJIT and the Bears will give out pennants to the first 1,000 fans through the Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium gates. Come and cheer on your Bears and get a pennant.

Sunday, August 29th, 6:05 p.m. vs. York (4:05 gates) - The series concludes between the Bears and Revolution on Sunday night. Newark will host their 2nd Annual Pancreatic Cancer Night at the ballpark. Fans can purchase tickets in advance for just $12 and will receive a purple keepsake bear, purple bam-bam noisemakers and purple lollypops. Prior to the game, fans will take the field to release hundreds of purple balloons, purple being the official color in support of pancreatic cancer awareness and research.

Get to the park early and head down to the field for a pre-game autograph session, presented by PSEG. After the game, fans are invited back to the field to run the bases, during Kids Run the Bases, presented by PSEG. The Bears will also host their Youth Baseball Clinics prior to Sunday's contest, sponsored by Healthfirst Health Plan of New Jersey. The clinics will run from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and are open for children ages 8-16 years old.

Tuesday, August 31st, 11:05 a.m. vs. Bridgeport (10:05 a.m.) - Newark continues the home stand with a double-header against the Bridgeport Bluefish on Tuesday. The teams will play two, seven-inning games, with game one beginning at 11:05 a.m. Game two will start approximately 30 minute following the conclusion of game one. The Bears welcome campers from around the New Jersey area to Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium for some weekday morning fun!

Tuesday is also the first "Silver Sluggers" Day at the "Den". Silver Sluggers is a promotional program presented by the Newark Bears and Healthfirst Health Plan of New Jersey for seniors 55 years or older. Seniors will receive discounted ticket rates to select afternoon baseball games and have an opportunity to participate in fun group activities throughout the game. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or by phone at a discounted rate of $7 a ticket.

Wednesday, September 1st, 6:35 p.m. vs. Bridgeport (5:35 p.m.) - The quick, three-game series wraps up Wednesday night. Wednesday is also "Kids Eat Free," presented by Dr. Thomas Haveron. All kids 12 and under (with a paid adult) get to eat free at all concession stands throughout the ballpark. Come hungry and ready to roar with the Bears to a "W".
