Jo Adell Hits Monster Home Run Tuesday Night

A 514-foot, record-breaking Jo Adell home run was not enough for the Salt Lake Bees (33-36) as the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (32-38) rallied late and prevailed in a 12-11 slugfest to start a six-game series at Smith's Ballpark.

Salt Lake imposed its will in the middle innings turning an early 1-0 deficit into an 8-3 lead after six innings. Jake Lamb provided the biggest chunk of the early offense with an RBI double in the fourth inning and a three-run homer in the fifth. The Space Cowboys would respond with a three-run seventh and then took the lead with five runs in the eighth. Adell would launch the longest home run ever tracked by Statcast in Minor or Major League Baseball in the eighth inning to tie things up at 11. The Space Cowboys responded with a solo home run from Rylan Bannon in the ninth and held on for the victory.

Eight of the nine Bees batters had hits on the night, David Fletcher leading the way with a four-for-five night. Three-time MLB All-Star and 2016 National League MVP runner-up Daniel Murphy impressed in his Bees debut with two hits and two runs scored. Salt Lake starter Kenny Rosenberg had a strong start allowing three runs over five innings but did not factor into the decision.

The Bees and Space Cowboys will meet for game two of the series on Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
