Chesapeake Baysox News Release
(Bowie, MD) - The Baysox headed into Friday's series opener with Binghamton, trying to run their record to 5-0 against the Mets in 2007. Gustavo Molina got things going for the Baysox with a single to right, scoring Jeff Fiorentino for the first run of the ballgame, putting the Baysox ahead, 1-0 in the bottom of the third. Ruddy Yan followed that up with a single in the very next at bat, scoring Molina from second, putting the Baysox ahead, 2-0.
The B-Mets got their lone run of the night in the top of the fourth, cutting the Baysox lead to, 2-1. Jamar Hill connected for a one out RBI single, scoring Mark Kiger.
The Baysox would extend their lead to 5-1 in a big way. Oscar Salazar kicked off the inning with a double, then Nolan Reimold reached first on a walk. Luis Jimenez then connected with a tape measure three-run homer in the next at bat, sailing over the video board in right center, putting the Baysox up by four.
The Baysox would add another run in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to Jimenez again, this time singling in Oscar Salazar, who reached on a triple, for a 6-1 Baysox lead. Jimenez led the Baysox with three hits and four RBI on the night.
Luis Montanez added a solo homer in the seventh, his second as a Baysox, capping the victory, 7-1.
Baysox starter Fredy Deza picked up the win to move to (6-7) on the year. Deza threw 5.0 innings, gave up five hits, one run, with three walks. Rommie Lewis and David Haehnel combined on a one-hitter through the final four innings of the game. Binghamton starter Kevin Mulvey took the loss and dropped to (9-10) on the season.
With the win the Baysox improved to (62-56) on the season and are now just 0.5 games behind Altoona for third place in the Division. The Baysox are 6.5 games behind Akron for the Division lead.
The Baysox take on Binghamton in game two of their three game series Saturday at 7:05 pm. Saturday will also be The All American Girls Professional Baseball League tribute night, featuring some of the first women of baseball on hand participating in pre-game ceremonies and an in-game autograph session. There will also be post game Fireworks, sponsored by Close Call America.
