
Aeros Break Tie in Eighth, Win

AKRON --The Akron Aeros won the series opener Friday night at home against the New Britain Rock Cats by a score of 4-2. New Britain came out swining in the first inning with two runs, but were held scoreless the rest of the night. The Aeros tied up the game in the sixth as Michael Aubrey drove home two runs on a double.
In the eighth inning, Jordan Brown's RBI single gave the Aeros their first lead. With the bases loaded, a passed ball scored Brandon Pinckney from third and the Aeros extended their lead to 4-2.
Bobby Brownlie pitched seven strong innings allowing one earned run on six hits, striking out four and walking only one. Reid Santos was awarded the win as he pitched the eighth striking out the side. Jim Ed Warden took the mound in the ninth closing out the game with a tremendous defensive double play started by Brown as Warden picked up his third save of the year.
The Rock Cats starter Yoslan Pino struck out eight batters and allowed just two earned runs on five hits before turning the game over to Mijares in the seventh, picking up his second loss of the season pitching two innings allowing two earned runs on three hits, walking only one and striking out three
Starting tomorrow night's game for the Aeros is southpaw Scott Lewis. He is 4-8 on the season with an ERA of 3.86. Anthony Swarzak will pitch for the Rock Cats with an ERA of 3.27 and a record of 3-3.
