Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports entered the seventh inning leading by two runs. They left the frame trailing by four. When the dust settled, the Ports found themselves on the short end of a 10-5 score on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark.

Stockton fell behind early as the JetHawks got a two-out, two-run double from Garrett Stubbs in the top of the first. The Ports, though, benefitted from a pair of fielding errors in the bottom of the first to put four runs on the board. James Harris led off with a triple and Eric Sogard, on a Major League rehab assignment, hit an RBI single to left. After John Nogowski was hit by a pitch, Tyler Marincov and Seth Brown struck out and popped to shortstop, respectively. With two outs, Mikey White came up and reached on a fielder's choice error on shortstop Kristian Tromopiz, who made an errant throw to second that allowed Sogard to score to tie the game. After a wild pitch allowed Nogowski to score and give Stockton the lead, Jose Brizuela doubled to left to plate White and make it a 4-2 Ports advantage.

JetHawks starter Trent Thornton would go on to receive a no-decision, going four innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out two.

Meanwhile, Ports starter Casey Meisner settled in after the two-run first inning. Meisner issued back-to-back one-out walks in the second, but then proceeded to retire the next 14 consecutive batters to finish his outing. Meisner left the game in line to earn the win but would be rendered a no-decision, going six strong innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four.

Joey Wagman (0-1) made his season debut for the Ports as he took over in relief to begin the seventh. Wagman walked Stubbs, then yielded a single to Jose Fernandez and walk to Drew Ferguson that loaded the bases. Trompiz came up and drove in a run on a fielder's choice groundout, at which point Wagman was lifted for Koby Gauna. Gauna gave up an RBI bunt single to Bobby Boyd that tied the contest at 4-4. After Jason Martin flied out to center, Roman Laureano gave Lancaster the lead with an infield RBI single. Nick Tanielu followed with an RBI double and Jamie Ritchie hit an RBI single that ran the JetHawks lead to 8-4.

Wagman was charged with the first three runs that scored in the inning and went on to suffer the loss, allowing three runs on one hit while walking two in a third of an inning. Gauna allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning.

The JetHawks added two more runs in the eighth off Lou Trivino on an RBI single by Martin and a passed ball to make it a 10-4 score. One of the two runs was earned for Trivino.

Joshua James (1-0) took over to begin the sixth inning for Lancaster and did not allow a run over his first three innings of work. In the ninth, Harris led off with an infield single. After James retired the next two batters, Ryan Thompson was summoned from the bullpen to record the final out. Before he did, though, Marincov doubled to left to drive in Harris and make it a 10-5 game.

James went on to earn the win, going 3.2 innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out five.

The Ports and JetHawks play the middle game of their three-game series on Tuesday at Banner Island Ballpark. Zack Erwin (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his California League debut for Stockton, opposed by JetHawks right-hander Brock Dykxhoorn (0-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
