Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
?Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Tim Locastro's eighth-inning sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead run and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes held on for a 2-1 victory over Inland Empire on Monday night at LoanMart Field.
Tied at 1-1 in the last of the eighth, Andrew Toles tripled to open the frame, driving a ball into the right-center field gap off of Inland Empire reliever Eduardo Paredes (0-1). Locastro followed Toles with a drive to center field, that was plenty deep to snap the tie and give the Quakes the lead.
Karch Kowalczyk (1-1), who entered in the eighth inning and recorded the final out with the go-ahead run on base for Inland Empire, earned the win in relief. Kowalczyk fired a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out two of three in the frame for the win.
The Quakes got outstanding starter pitching from Josh Sborz, who pitched into the sixth inning. Sborz scattered just two hits over 5 2/3 scoreless frames.
Rancho couldn't muster any offense against Inland Empire starter Tyler Carpenter, who fired five scoreless innings.
The Quakes finally broke through in the sixth against the 66ers' bullpen, as Matt Beaty and Kyle Garlick produced back-to-back doubles for a 1-0 lead.
The 66ers would tie the game in the top half of the eighth against reliever Chris Powell, as Taylor Ward's ground ball scored David Fletcher, who opened the inning with a double.
The win snaps Rancho's brief two-game skid, while the 66ers fall to 0-5 on the young season.
The Quakes (2-3) will go with Trevor Oaks (0-1) on Tuesday night, as they aim for their second straight win over the 66ers. Inland Empire (0-5) will counter with Jake Jewell (0-1), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Tuesday's game is our first Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday of the year, as fans that bring ten CRV-eligible bottle and cans to the ballpark will score a free Club Seat Ticket. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
