Lancaster JetHawks News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks (1-1) exploded for six runs in the seventh inning to propel them to a come-from-behind 10-5 victory over the Stockton Ports (2-2) on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
The JetHawks loaded the bases with nobody out in the decisive inning. Kristian Trompiz brought home a run with an RBI fielder's choice and Bobby Boyd followed with a perfectly executed squeeze bunt single to tie the game, 4-4. Ramon Laureano put the JetHawks in front 5-4 with an RBI infield single. Nick Tanielu increased the lead with a booming two-run double to left. Jamie Ritchie capped the frame with an RBI single.
After being washed out the past three days, the JetHawks got off to a fast start and took the lead with a pair of runs in the opening inning, both coming on one swing of the bat. With two out and nobody on, Ramon Laureano was hit by a pitch and Nick Tanielu followed with a single. That brought up Garrett Stubbs, who picked up his first Cal League hit with a check swing two-run double the other way down the left field line.
The Ports didn't waste any time in responding. James Harris started the attack for the Ports with a triple and Eric Sogard, who is with Stockton on a rehab assignment from Oakland, followed with an RBI single. Before the frame was over, the JetHawks committed a pair of errors and Stockton took advantage with three unearned runs.
Trent Thornton started for Lancaster and surrendered just the one earned run over four innings of work. Riley Ferrell tossed a perfect inning in his Cal League debut with a couple of strikeouts. Joshua James (1-0) picked up the win, striking out five over 3.2 innings. Ryan Thompson recorded the final out for Lancaster.
The JetHawks and Ports continue their three-game series tomorrow night at Banner Island Ballpark. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m., with the pre-game coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1380 and jethawks.com. Brock Dykxhoorn will start for the JetHawks while Zack Erwin gets the start for Stockton.
