Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - With jockey Joe Bravo in attendance, fans can win their way to the 2007 Breeders Cup at the BlueClaws game on May 3rd. Monmouth Park, host of the World Thoroughbred Championships in October, will be raffling off Friday/Saturday ticket packages for Breeders Cup weekend that night at FirstEnergy Park.
In addition, jockey Joe Bravo, known as "Jersey Joe," will throw out the first pitch before the BlueClaws meet the Lexington Legends at 6:35 p.m.
Bravo, who was born in Long Branch, has won 12 riding titles at the Oceanport track, including four in a row. He will also be signing autographs for fans, and all fans 18 & over will also receive free admission passes to Monmouth Park.
"We couldn't be more excited to have Joe Bravo coming to a BlueClaws game," said the team's General Manager, Geoff Brown. "He is a great athlete and a Jersey Shore icon, and with the Kentucky Derby on May 5th, the timing is perfect."
2007 will be the first year Monmouth Park hosts the Breeders Cup. It will also mark the first year the Breeders Cup offers championship racing over two days, with the additions of the Dirt Mile, Filly and Mare Sprint, and Juvenile Turf Divisions.
The BlueClaws return from a six-game road trip to host Lexington for four games beginning April 30th.
The BlueClaws have led the league in attendance every year, adding 448,310 fans in 2006. This season, the BlueClaws will become the fastest team in South Atlantic League and New Jersey baseball history to reach the 3 million fan attendance mark.
