SALISBURY, MD- Doug Morales, making just his 5th start of the season, was 4-5 with a walk and 4 RBI Lakewood beat Delmarva 15-4 Thursday night at Perdue Stadium. Tuffy Gosewisch had 3 hits including 2 doubles and 3 RBI in the win.
The 15 runs are 2 short of the franchise record set in 2004.
Adrian Cardenas also had 3 hits and drove in 2 runs as the BlueClaws scored their highest run total of the season.
Cardenas drove in Quintin Berry on a groundout in the first inning and the BlueClaws led the rest of the way. Morales had a 2-run single in the 4th.
Lakewood scored 2 in the 4th, 5th, and 6th and then added 3 in the 7th, and 4 in the 9th, along with a run in the first inning. Cardenas and Tuffy Gosewisch each scored 2 runs. Each BlueClaws starter had a hit except Gus Milner, who was on base 3 times and scored twice, and each starter scored a run.
Darren Byrd (1-1) went 5 innings and allowed just 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits for the win, as Lakewood took 2 of 3 from Delmarva after the Shorebirds took 2 of 3 last week at FirstEnergy Park. Ben Pfinsgraff pitched 3 and Alex Concepcion the 9th in relief.
Delmarva starter Fernando de Nabal allowed 3 runs in 3.1 IP and falls to 0-3. Brandon Tripp singled in the 9th for Delmarva and extended his hitting streak to 10.
The BlueClaws will open a 3-game series in Eastlake, Ohio tonight at 7:05 against the Lake County Captains (Indians). Edgar Garcia (1-0, 2.95 ERA) throws against Hector Rondon (1-1, 5.17). They return to Lakewood for four games with the Lexington Legends (Astros) beginning Monday night.
