Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-----Jason Jarvis pitched his fifth complete game in a 2-1 win over Sioux Falls Sunday. The win for the Explorers snapped a four-game losing streak and gave Sioux City the season series edge 8-6 over the Pheasants in the I-29 series.

Jarvis in pitching his fifth complete game scattered five hits while striking out seven and allowed the only Sioux Falls run in the first inning that tied the game at 1-1. At one point in the game in the fifth and sixth innings, Jarvis struck out five straight batters.

The Explorers plated the winning run in the second inning as Youske Inoguchi started the inning with a single. Inoguchi stole second base and a throw by the Pheasants catcher Al Quintana sailed into centerfield which allowed Inoguchi to take third base. With the infield drawn in, Mike Bisenius grounded to second baseman Joe Anthonsen, who had to make a diving pickup and did not have a play at the plate and Inoguchi scored, what proved to be the winning run.

Wally Backman didn't get a hit until the eighth inning that stretched his hitting streak to 23 games, the longest this season in the American Association. Mike Murphy doubled in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Explorers will have Monday off before heading to Winnipeg Tuesday to start a four-game series. The X's will close out their season with a three-game series on Saturday through Monday with Kansas City.
