El Paso Diablos News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Lemurs entered Sunday's series finale with the Diablos with the best record at home in the entire league at 34-15.
They used that home field advantage once again at the expense of the Diablos, rallying from a run down in the bottom of the ninth to win the series finale 4-3 and sweep the four-game set at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The Diablos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth after four scoreless frames from starters Scott Hodsdon and Ryan Sasaki. Welington Dotel's RBI hit got El Paso on the board, and Jermy Acey's single knocked in two runs to extend the advantage.
Once again, however, the Diablos were stymied by a resurgent Lemurs bullpen. Laredo finally broke through against Hodsdon in the seventh, plating two runs on a hit by Anthony Scelfo to make the score 3-2.
It stayed that way into the bottom of the ninth, when Marcel Prado (2-3) took the hill to try to earn his 16th save. It wasn't to be, as Javier Brito led the inning off by doubling down the left field line. After a pop up, Brian Peterson doubled to tie the score. Two pitches later, Stephen Pearson kept a ground ball down the first base line barely fair to win the game for the Lemurs.
With a scoreless top of the ninth, Leonard Giammanco (4-4) earned his fourth win for Laredo, who have now won ten straight contests.
The Diablos (44-47) now trail the first place Lemurs by five games with nine left to play. Next up for El Paso is a five game series with Wichita, beginning with a double-header on Monday evening in Kansas.
