
Jarret Martin Earns Win in Two Scoreless Innings

Asheville, N.C. - For a second consecutive night, the Delmarva Shorebirds scored runs in the tenth inning to defeat the Asheville Tourists, 7-4, at McCormick Field in Asheville, N.C. The Shorebirds have scored five runs in extra innings over the last two nights.
The Shorebirds plated the first runs of the game in the first inning. They have now scored first in six of their last seven games. Mikey Planeta started a string of four consecutive hits to open the first against Asheville starter Albert Campos. Planeta scored on the fourth hit of the inning, a single up the middle by Jonathan Schoop. Mike Flacco followed with a sacrifice fly RBI to center field to score Kelly.
The Tourists went scoreless through the first four innings before taking the lead in the fifth. Russell Wilson led off with a double. Two batters later, Rafael Ortega singled. Then, Brett Tanos hit an RBI single to get the Tourists on the board. Bryce Massanari singled to tie the game at 2-2. Kyle Parker followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Tourists a 3-2 lead.
The Shorebirds grabbed the lead right back in the sixth inning. Flacco singled and Adam Gaylord doubled to put runners at second and third. Justin Dalles then singled to tie the game at 3-3. Givens grounded into a double play as Adam Gaylord came into score to give the âBirds a 4-3 edge.
The Tourists knotted the game in the seventh inning. Dustin Garneau singled home Rafael Ortega.
In the tenth inning, Kipp Schutz got things started with a double off the right field wall. After Schoop walked, Flacco hit a hard grounder off the leg of relief pitcher Rafael Suarez to bring home Schutz. Gaylord followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 6-4. Flacco came into score on a wild pitch to give the âBirds a 7-4 lead.
Jarret Martin, who struck out four batters in two innings, held the Tourists scoreless over the ninth and tenth innings to earn his second win of the season.
Shorebirds starter Jacob Pettit picked a no-decision in six innings. He allowed ten hits and three runs. He struck out six and walked one batter.
Ty Kelly and Mike Flacco each had three hits to lead the Shorebirds offense to a 14-hit night.
The Shorebirds and Tourists play game four of the series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. RHP Scott Copeland makes the start for Delmarva.
