Legends hold on for 8-6 win over Hagerstown

Outfielder Emilio King, who joined the Lexington Legends earlier in the day, had a single, a double and a home run as the Legends held on a for an 8-6 win over the Hagerstown Suns Saturday night. The Legends built a 7-0 lead after four and a half innings. Chris Wallace started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Adam Bailey's RBI double in the third gave the Legends a 2-0 lead.

The Legends added five runs in the fifth. A double by Wallace, a walk to Jhonny Medrano and a single by Tyler Burnett produced one run. A balk by Hagerstown starter A.J. Cole allowed Medrano to score, giving the Legends a 4-0 lead. King doubled, scoring Burnett, and Jiovanni Mier and Bailey added RBI singles.

Hagerstown came back on a two-run homer by Jason Martinson in the bottom of the fifth, and added four more in the seventh to pull within a run at 7-6.

King's solo homer in the ninth provided an insurance run. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Adrian Sanchez swung and missed for strike three on a wild pitch from Legends' reliever Jorge DeLeon. Catcher Roberto Pena retrieved the ball, but threw past first base for an error, and Sanchez went to second. Bryce Harper singled him to third, but David Freitas' line drive was backhanded on one hop by Mier at shortstop, and Mier threw Freitas out at first base to end the game.

Tanner Bushue (5-0) worked the first six innings and picked up the win. Cole (0-1) was the losing pitcher. Hagerstown has won two of three in the series, which concludes Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. game.
